Dentistry professor to cover tissue engineering, drug delivery

Dr. Amol V. Janorkar, professor of dentistry in the Department of Biomedical Materials Science, will give the Department of Biochemistry presentation, “Leveraging Research Facilities Available at UMMC: A Multidisciplinary Research Endeavor in Tissue Engineering and Drug Delivery,” at 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, in classroom 3A.

Former St. Dominic CEO to discuss integrating faith, profession

Sr. Dorothea Sondgeroth, associate executive director of the St. Dominic Health Services Foundation and former CEO and president of St. Dominic Health Services, will present “To Lead or to Be Led: The Blending of Hospital Administration and Religious Life,” at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 10, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).

Sponsored by the UMMC Catholic Students Association, the talk will focus on Sondgeroth’s experiences in her administrative role at St. Dominic and how she integrated her faith into her profession. Lunch will be provided to the first 50 in attendance.

Physiology grad assistant to talk BP, aging, IUGR rat

Gwendolyn Davis, a graduate assistant in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, will give the Physiology Seminar Series presentation, “Blood Pressure, Aging and the IUGR Female Rat,” from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Dr. Georgios Kararigas, DZHK professor at the Institute of Gender in Medicine and the Center for Cardiovascular Research, Charite University Hospital, Berlin, Germany, will give the Women’s Health Research Center/Department of Biochemistry presentation, “Hormonal and Sex-specific Regulation of the Healthy and Diseased Heart,” at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, in classroom 3A.

UMMC faculty to talk pediatric mind health at CAY event

Dr. David Elkin, professor of psychiatry, Dr. Cynthia Field, assistant professor of pediatrics, and Dr. Monica Sutton, associate professor of pediatrics, will present “State of Mind: The Truth About Anxiety, Depression and Other Mood Disorders Facing Our Children and Youth” at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, in the Norman C. Nelson Student Union.

The talk is presented by the Center for Advancement of Youth and the Junior League of Jackson. Supper will be available on a first-come basis at 6:15 a.m. Child care for children ages 3-10 will be available.

Chancellor, vice chancellor to speak at faculty meeting

Dr. Jeffrey Vitter, University of Mississippi chancellor, and Dr. LouAnn Woodward, vice chancellor for health affairs, are scheduled to speak at the fall faculty meeting at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).

Vitter and Woodward will provide an update on the university and the Medical Center for the next fiscal year. The agenda also will include a recognition of faculty with 20 years of service.
